Medical

Regardless of your role offshore you are going to need to undergo regular medical examinations to ensure that you are not going to collapse in a pile whilst putting in a 12 hour shift of intense hard graft in a physically demanding environment.  Certain roles do have more stringent medical requirements to be met, including seafarers and divers for example.

This page gives you some information on the different requirements and provides links to approved practitioners.

UK Offshore Medical

To work in the UK sector of the North Sea you will need to undergo and pass a OGUK Medical  (formally known as a UKOOA Medical).  Many UK based offshore companies will require you to pass a OGUK Medical regardless of where you are working in the world.

Norwegian Medical

To all intents and purposes this examination is identical to the OGUK Medical, but it is a requirement for working within the Norwegian Continental Shelf.  Quite often a Norwegian and OGUK will be completed during the same examination.

Seafarer Medical

All UK registered seafarers must undergo a medical examination performed by a MCA approved physician before being allowed to work onboard a vessel regardless of any other medical certificates held.  The seafarers medical is more commonly known as a ENG-1. Diver Medical

Professional divers must undergo and pass a medical examination performed by a HSE approved physician before being allowed to dive or enter saturation regardless of any other medical certificates held.  When attending the medical examination you must take a completed health questionnaire available on the HSE website.  For more information click on The Medical Examination & Assessment Of Divers (MA1)
